Orientation Program on Exam Preparation for school children

During the March and April School children are in the exam fever.  They need guidance on how to prepare for their examinations of different subjects.  SEDT designed simple steps before they start studying the subjects which would help them to come out from the fear, tension and loss of memory. The training covers how to enhance their memory and learning ability through changing their regular practices.  Early morning studies, simple warm-ups and better study plans are some components covered in the orientation programs.  SEDT believes that, the simple orientations will build their confidence and ability on learning towards ensuring their better future.

Educational Aid to Poor Children

Though our Government provides basic study materials to all the Government school children, they need additional study materials such as geometric box, practical note, pencils and pens.  We have been receiving requests for this supports from few schools and plan to raise this support from our donors and local companies.

Children Eco Club Programs

Children are the future citizen of our nation, they need to sensitize on environmental issues around them.  With the perspectives, SEDT have plan to promote 20 Children Clubs in 20 villages in Sivakasi and Vembakottai blocks during this financial year (2022-23).  The Eco clubs will be involving in activities such as raising eco awareness, tree planting activities, creating seed banks, raising nurseries, creating herbal and nutritional garden etc according to the availability of local resources and supports.

Children Learning Centers (CLC)

This year 10 CLCs will be opened for the benefit the local school children.  The center will be mainly operated as a tuition center where the children with low learning abilities will be focused.  Apart from this facility, the children will be taught few life skills and hoping mechanisms to tackle challenges and take better decisions in their life.

Promotion of Sports Clubs

Sports and games are really important to the children and youth which build confidence, skills and ability to achieve targets.  The poor village children are not able to buy sports/games materials hence they are losing their joyful childhood and lacks exposures.  In order to address this gap, SEDT plan to raise local funds to support the children to buy adequate sports materials and organize as sport clubs to regulate their sports activities.

Promotion of Joint Liability Groups (JLGs)

Joint Liability groups are small women groups with the members 4 to 6 who are liable to each others on promoting the business ventures.  SEDT have plan to create 30 such groups in its working area during this financial year.  The group will be properly oriented after formation for the sustainable economic development practices and will be linked with the appropriate financial linkages for individual or group business activities with potential marketing linkages.  All eligible government subsidies and supports will be converged to the beneficiaries for their better growth in future.

Formation and restructuring Women Groups

SHGs are potential social platform for the socio economic development and past achievements proved the same.  However, reasonable numbers of groups become inactive as on impact of COVID-19 pandemic.  In order to restructure the existing groups and promote new groups, SEDT takes more efforts with the proper guidance accessing feasible Government support.  During this year, we have target to form 20 new groups and restructure 30 groups.

Health and Nutrition training for mothers

Women are the health ministers of every family; their kitchen decides the health and nutrition of the entire family.  With the view, SEDT planned to conduct Health and Nutrition trainings among the mothers in our working villages.  The training covers best health practices and preparation of nutrition foods with locally available and cost effective food ingredients.

Training programs on organic agriculture promotion

Organic agriculture is being trend today with the increased awareness on health after COVID-19.  This practice saves our health and money by cutting medical expenses.  The demand for the organic food items is increasing all over the worlds where the supply is less.  In order to enhance organic agriculture, SEDT planned to conduct Organic Agriculture training program among our farmers.  The training includes, how to prepare the land for organic agriculture, cost effective methods of organic farming, how to prepare organic manure from the farm wastes etc with proper guidance of agriculture and horticulture departments.

The COVID-19 pandemic changes the life of the world community where many lost their lives, their family members, jobs, properties and other livelihoods is not an execration.  Our working area dumped with the pool of wage laborers working in firework factories, match and printing industries, who are the most affected community.  Still they are striving for the jobs since only 50% of the factories are reopened. In this situation SEDT wishes to conducts a short study on status local livelihoods during post COVID-19 and alternative options to rebuild with the existing sources of Government and private sectors.
